Travel Program Arrangements

Housing: Students will be housed in shared rooms in good quality hotels. The lodging cost includes breakfast daily. Single rooms are available by paying a $1,000 supplement. The supply of single rooms can be limited since the group will be traveling to Europe during high season.

Daily expenses: Students should budget about $40 per day to cover basic expenses (meals, dinner, snacks, local transportation, and incidentals). These expenses of course depend on individual taste and lifestyle.

Daily schedule: There will generally be two classes/seminars per day. Normally, evenings and weekends will be free for individual activities and for taking advantage of the many cultural and recreational opportunities available in the countries visited.

Academic conduct: The University’s Academic Integrity Code is fully incorporated herein by reference.

Important:

1.                  You will be responsible for all hotel costs if you arrive earlier or depart later and for all the incidental expenses charged to the room beyond the basic room and breakfast, paid by the program.  Make sure to take responsibility for your own phone bills, mini bar consumption, pay per view orders, etc.  It is not the job of the professor to get involved with student disputes over hotel charges made to shared rooms.  We expect everyone to act like adults--it is your responsibility to pay all incidental charges upon check-out from each hotel.

2.                  You are representing your country and your University abroad. We expect you to maintain the same high standards of academic and personal conduct that you would in the USAmerican University’s Academic Integrity Code and Rules of Conduct are fully incorporated herein by reference.

3.                  All information provided to you in regards to the program is best available, and is subject to change at any time after its publication and distribution.  The travel itinerary of the program may change due to unexpected and unavoidable circumstances such as strikes, cancellations, etc.  It is your responsibility to be alert, and keep yourself informed and up to date about daily activities and to verify important data such as train schedules etc.

4.         Attendance to group visits, seminars, presentations and lectures is required; attendance to social group events (i.e. dinners, cruises, etc.) is optional but encouraged.

BUSINESS ATTIRE IS REQUIRED FOR VISITS TO INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. This means, at a minimum, long pants, dress shirt, a tie and dress shoes for men; skirt or long pants, a nice blouse (with sleeves) and dress shoes for women. For the more important and formal meetings, a jacket & tie for men and a “dressier” dress for women will be encouraged. After the official business is done or among ourselves, wear what you like! However, as a personal safety precaution, I suggest you avoid bringing items of clothing that loudly identify you as an American (for example: a combination of sneakers, shorts,  a T-shirt, a baseball cap and a back pack will inform the locals that you are an American).  Observe how locals dress and try to dress accordingly.

Students with disabilities: Students with special needs are asked to contact the program director to discuss arrangements. In Europe there are limitations on accommodations for persons with physical disabilities. However, reasonable efforts will be made to address special needs.

International airfare:

International and intra-European travel will be the responsibility of individual students. Students must make their own transatlantic air travel arrangements.
